Even though this house of moderate cost is designed to be constructed in a rural parcel at Cayey, its design also seeks to bring up an effort in rethinking some conventional notions of residential construction in the island. Here are some of the principal objectives of the design:

1 The house would be built with concrete prefabricates (GFRC)

The exterior carapace of the house would be constructed with modular panels of concrete, reinforced with fiberglass only where it is necessary, allowing reduced sections that will make panels light and therefore easy to manage and transport.

2 The house would use sustainable technologies and recycled materials

A considerable number of photovoltaic panels and solar water heaters would be installed in order to supply electricity and hot water to the house. Eolic energy (by means of windmills) would be used as an alternative energy source. In addition to this the house would also have a grey water system.

3 Paralelly, the design for this house proposes to take maximum advantage of passive techno-logy

The tridimensional form of panels serves not only to maximize structural rigidness but to guarantee wind flow and continuous exposition to natural light.

4 The design should mean considerable savings because of the capability of the structure to be assembled with a fraction of materials and time necessary for construction.
